JA Career SPeaker Series: Exploring Michigan Careers
I believe every artist has a ritual before stepping into their creative space. Mine was to believe and trust my own experience and career tips that have helped me along the way. When I have received an email about an opportunity to go to a middle school in my old neighborhood, I thought to myself, “I have been waiting to share my passion in the Visual Arts to the next generation of ambitous artists that need positive role models.” And of course, with no hesitation I was on a mission! I was ready but had to prep in how I was going to approach this event. And boy was it an interesting time. Since, 7:30am to 2:30pm, I had the pleasure to meet 5 to 6 different groups of students, and thanks to Mx Jones, they were a huge help with mediating the classroom and giving me an opportunity to shine with them.
Because this was my first time ever doing something like this, the experiences created more fire of passion as a content creator to continue engaging and growing in what I love to do and to share better ways, smarter ways to assist the next young generations of artists. I had the privileged to even witness some of the classroom artwork that was so amazing! It was like seeing a glimpse of what could possibly be when they are older and how their work would evolve. the super excitement and appreciation just adds a bit more fuel to my ambitions and goals to continue to pursue one of my main goals within the next 5 years. How do I give back to my communities? Where do I begin? Who can connect me to the right network? I don’t mind volunteering to elevate my presence and professional skills as an artist and build trust through commitment and authentic relationships. Having a loyal mindset and heart, allows me to act on my words, and speak with truth, and fulfill my vows of giving back. There is no other way I can express how genuinely grateful I feel right now. All I can rely on is the hope that the seeds that were planted today will one day flourish and continue to blossom. And I hope and believe with the right and positive role models will find a purpose to stand firm and to give these students a chance to be their organic self and to invest in their goals.
I can truly say this, today has taught me a lot about how I plan ahead and how to engage with students with such an impactful expressions that they will believe in themselves as much as I believe in them.
“The best way to influence others is to make them feel important.”
“Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.”
“If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think you should always take it because you can influence a person’s life in a positive light, and that’s what I want to do. That’s what It’s all about.”
Please enjoy some of the artwork I took pictures with the consent of the students and their teacher. Thank you again for having me and I hope I can come back again! With much love and gratitude thank you!!!!!
I do not own any rights to the students artwork. These are theirs for giving praise in the work they have put into their own creativity!
